In our previous post Shrunken Heads: Yesterday And Today, we mentioned that there are websites stating that real human shrunken heads are illegal for trade in the United States. However, after extensive research, we were unable to find any laws that have stated this information is accurate.

There is also common misconception that selling, buying and possessing human bones is illegal in the United States. However, in the U.S., there is no federal law that says you cannot purchase or possess real human bones. This does not mean there are no laws that exist in other countries.

Before you decide to actually purchase a real human skull, it is still recommended you ensure there are no local laws that prohibit human bone sales. There are three U.S. states with laws that prohibit the import and export of human remains. This includes New York, Georgia and Tennessee.

If is important to mention that the only federal law that prohibits the possession and sales of human remains is the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act NAGPRA of 1990.

We found three web pages that provide disarticulated human skulls (both real or replicas) for a variety of prices. With a product that is so rare and wanted by many, the sites are likely to sell out fast.

1.  For the real deal, you may want to contact Ryan Matthew from the TV show Oddities. His work is absolutely amazing. Matthew even has exploded animal skulls (such as a baboon, and a cat).

2. Unfortunately, we were unable to find anymore genuine human skulls available online. However, we did find an awesome real bobcat exploded skull from an Etsy seller with the shop name Specialty Skulls.

Of course, real ancient human skulls are seen at various museums around the world. However, if you are looking to find one that is actually on sale, you are probably going to have to purchase one directly from a museum. However, there are still some websites that sell replicas of ancient human skulls. Skulls Unlimited provides a wide selection of hominid skulls. The Prehistoric Store also provides a variety of replica hominid skulls. This includes homo sapiens, neanderthal and more.

Deformed Skulls

Many skull collectors look to find skulls that are deformed. This is because they are extremely rare to find. They seek skulls with abnormalities from various causes such as disease and trauma. If you like to purchase oddities and are a big fan of the TV show Oddities, you may have seen the crew on the hunt to find information about a real deformed human skull. We did extensive research to find real human skulls with deformities, but were unable to find any online. If you find a genuine skull that had a rare disease, it would likely be listed for thousands (depending on its condition).

There is a real skull of a child on Skulls Unlimited with a mixed pattern of dentition. As far as a skull that shows some form of a deformity, this is the only one we were able to find on the Internet (skull available for a limited time).

Elongated Skulls

Above is a video showing skulls from the Paracas culture. They are located at The Ica Museum in Peru. They are likely between 2,000 and 3,000 years old. The shape of the skulls are unbelievable. They have an extremely long cranium with large eye sockets. It is still a mystery of whether they were actually bound to create their unique shape. Skulls Unlimited has an elongated Peruvian female (reproduction) skull on sale. We were unable to find sites that sell real elongated skulls.

An Extremely Rare Find

The above image is a 19th century skull with sword-blade trauma. Although it currently belongs to a museum, it would be an extremely rare find. Just imagine getting your hands on this treasure.

Animal Skulls From Various Species

You won’t have an issue finding animal skulls for sale. The Bone Room is just one of many. eBay also has a selection of animals skulls. This includes alligators, coyotes and many more species. eBay even has a selection of primate skulls for sale. This includes a mix of real and replica skulls.

The Evolution Store and The American HeadHunter are more reputable websites that provide a wide range of real animal skulls.

Dinosaur Skulls And Other Extinct Species

There are websites that provide skull replicas of dinosaurs and other extinct species. Fossilized skulls are not as common. However, there is a site that has a real fossil skull of a Triceratops.

Of course, real and complete fossils of ancient species are not as easy to find as skulls. This is because it is quite difficult for a complete organism to fossilize. However, a near-complete (90% complete) skeleton of an Ice Age wooly mammoth was recently sold at an auction for over 200,000 dollars. The skeleton (between 30,000 and 50,000 years old) weighed around 6 tons and stood 18ft high, with a length of 11ft 6in. It took four people just to lift the skull and fix it to its body.

It is going to be more of a challenge to find the a real dinosaur skull. You may be able to find one at an auction or estate sale. You can also try contacting a museum.
