Sahar Tabar is a 22-year-old social media star who has spent years undergoing surgical procedures to resemble Angelina Jolie. She has reportedly undergone more than 50 plastic surgery procedures and lost nearly 100 pounds (in just a few months) to attain the skeletal appearance she desires. It is said that she lost this weight to more closely resemble Jolie’s physical appearance in the 2010 movie, “Salt.” There are concerns for her health because losing this substantial amount of weight in such a short period of time can be deadly.
An Iranian Social Media Star at the Age of 19
Sahar became a social media star at the age of 19, at which time she amassed hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram: At her peak, she had more than 300,000 followers. However, she currently has less than 275,000.
While Sahar’s infatuation with Angelina Jolie is nothing new, her friends and family think that she has taken her obsession with the actor too far. She has reportedly undergone 50 surgical procedures in her attempt to resemble Jolie, who is 20 years her senior.
Today, Sahar Dismisses Claims That She Wanted to Look Like Angelina Jolie
More recently, Sahar claims that she did not undergo surgical procedures to look like Jolie. After an onslaught of negative comments related to some of the pictures she posted on her Instagram account, Sahar decided to speak out and end the speculation about her appearance.
Some of the photos on her Instagram show her with an extremely-oversized set of lips, an upturned nose, razer-sharp cheekbones. One of the most concerning photos depicted her with a bluish/black skin tone. This photo had people concerned: Most likely because it looks as if her repeated surgical procedures may have led to a condition known as skin necrosis. Skin necrosis occurs when the soft tissue and skin die due to a loss of blood flow to the area.
Having Numerous Plastic Surgery Procedures Increase the Risk of Necrosis
Whenever an individual undergoes a surgical procedure (of any kind), trauma to the area being treated is unavoidable. When trauma repeatedly occurs to the same area, especially in a relatively short amount of time, the risk of skin necrosis increases.
A Brazilian man, Rodrigo Alves, who was undergoing surgical procedures to resemble the ‘Ken’ doll suffered necrosis following a rhinoplasty procedure. Unfortunately, there is no way to repair the dead skin and tissue and, if left untreated, it will spread. For Alves, there is only one option, surgeons had to remove the dead skin and tissue, and then replace it with healthy tissue from a donor; however, rejection is always of concern. If Alves’ body rejects the donor tissue, his nose will have to be removed.
The most recent update on Alves (July 2017) is that he has had a total of 51 surgical procedures and 103 cosmetic procedures: Alves underwent three rhinoplasty procedures within 15 months and wants to have another because he is having difficulty breathing. Surgeons state that the tissue in his nose is so damaged that another procedure could cause his nose to turn black and fall off.
Sahar Says She Uses Makeup and Edits the Photographs She Posts
Sahar admits that she has had a lip augmentation (lip enlargement), a rhinoplasty (aka ‘nose job’) and a liposuction procedure; however, she claims that most of her features are created using makeup and editing the photographs. She admits that the photos where she attempted to resemble “Maleficent” are a hoax, created through photo editing.
Sahar Addresses Negative Comments About Her Appearance
There were numerous comments about the way Sahar looks in a particular photo on her Instagram account: She was compared to Yzma from “The Emperor’s New Groove,” as an extra zombie from the television show “The Walking Dead” and as Tim Burton’s character the Corpse Bride.
Sahar did not take kindly to the negative comments relating to her appearance and she fired back:
Snopes.com states that Sahar wrote: “Hello relatively dear followers, the picture that you’re scrutinizing, even though I didn’t like it, I kept it in … I must say I only had [an indeterminate number of] surgery, not 50 surgeries, and foreign sites and channels were very biased in the way they talked about my photos. ‘I thought these people are probably living in the 18th century and they haven’t seen or heard of technology or makeup and they are really surprised.”
Dr. Michael Salzhauer, ‘Plastic Surgeon to the Stars,’ Chimes In
Newsweek interviewed Dr. Michael Salzhauer, who is the chief surgeon at Bal Harbour Plastic Surgery in Bay Harbor Islands, Florida, to ask his opinion on Sahar Tabar’s appearance and which plastic surgery procedures he thought she may have undergone. Although Dr. Salzhauer has never treated Sahar, he agreed to offer his insight into her appearance.
Dr. Salzhauer states that she has had too many rhinoplasty procedures and she probably has an implant to provide support for the bridge, and tip of her nose. Lip augmentations to increase the size of the lips are common; however, Dr. Salzhauer states that Sahar’s lips look as if they have been overfilled. He also believes that she may have had what is referred to as a ‘lip lift.’ This procedure turns the lip up so as to show more of the vermillion (the red portion of the lip). Furthermore, Dr. Salzhauer says that malnutrition is likely contributing to the hollowing effect in her cheeks, and temples. This occurs due to a lack of protein. Dr. Salzhauer states that it is these facial characteristics that cause her face to look skeletal.
Dr. Salzhauer is concerned for Sahar’s health. He believes that she needs to be hospitalized and given a stomach tube (to provide her with additional protein). Furthermore, he states that she needs psychiatric therapy, otherwise, he is concerned that she may starve to death.
Final Thoughts
I have previously addressed my thoughts on plastic surgery and the like when I wrote about Valeria Lukyanova, Rodrigo Alves and Justin Jedlica. In my opinion, enhancing your natural beauty through non-surgical cosmetic enhancement procedures is a great way to look refreshed and feel younger. I can even understand ‘tweaking’ your appearance with plastic surgery procedures; however, changing yourself to the point where no one would be able to recognize you is disheartening, especially for those who like the way you looked.
