György Dózsa is remembered as a Christian martyr as well as a dangerous criminal. Dózsa was appointed by the Hungarian chancellor, Tamás Bakócz, to organize an army and then lead a crusade against the Turks.

As Dózsa and the anger of his peasant volunteers increased toward the noblemen, the war quickly turned into a rebellion, in which vengeance was being sought. The rebellion failed, leading to the capture of Dózsa and his nine followers that remained. read more
